Inbound: Controller (Unilever- Jozi Park)
Job Purpose


  • To ensure the procedures pertaining to all functions within the Receiving Department of the Distribution Centre is carried out, with utmost professionalism and to ensure smooth transition between principal and the company.

  • To work in conjunction with Managers, monitor, develop and allocate work to group subordinates in specific.

  • To control manage the inbound process within the distribution centre ensure the free flow of goods from receiving to the inbound system thereby minimizing any delay to the operation.

  • Responsible for maintaining inventory records accurately, integrity and continuously review all inventory functions for operational efficiency.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Allocate duties to teams of the shift in line with day-to-day requirements.

  • Arrange casual labour, if necessary, with the approval of senior management.

  • Instruct Security Main Gate to release vehicles into Receiving Area.

  • Ensure vehicles are off-loaded and stock contents checked timeously as per booking schedule.

  • Ensure that receiving area door and gates are secured and locked properly at the end of the work shift.

  • Issue daily MHE checklists and ensure that the forms are correctly completed by the machine operators.

  • Investigate all MHE faults and report to Workshop.

  • Hold 15 minutes team brief at the beginning of each shift.

  • Ensure team and individuals achieve standards set by monitoring individual performance and providing feedback to individuals daily. Correct non-performers through counselling and discipline if necessary.

  • Maintain leave roster. Authorize individual leave after taking due consideration of operational requirements, company policy and individual request.

  • Manage time-keeping schedules for subordinates. Endorse and submit weekly to HR Department.

  • Identify training requirements for staff and report to management.

  • Carry out “on the job training” where needed especially with regard to casuals or new recruits.

  • Plan and arrange the necessary training of back-up personnel in the advent of leave or sickness.

  • Prepare and monitor KPI’s daily.

  • Ensure all outstanding inbound transfers from Principal are cleared of Pride on a daily basis.

  • Adhere to cost targets.

  • Ensure products are captured correctly.

  • Ensure put away of stock accuracy.

  • Maintain and adhere to departmental budget.

  • Monitor adherence to depot SHEQ standard.

  • Ensure high level of housekeeping

  • Interface with Principal sending depots/factory’s

  • Management of staff.

  • Ensure at all times that standard operating procedures and safe working practices are followed.

  • Compile and submit relevant reports and statistics to Senior Management on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

  • Ensure accurate administration of all aspects of the Mother Depot within budget.

  • Compliance to Good Distribution Practice Guidelines, as well as MCC and SAPC requirements.
